Wesley United AFC, affiliated to Cape District FA was founded in 1955 in Harfield Village and adopted `UNITY` as our motto. The clubs name is derived from Wesley Street and the Calvyn Protestant Church in Harfield Village. The club was originally started to provide the young men and boys of Harfield Village and opportunity to play football on a regular and organized basis. During the sixties the apartheid system forced the club into disarray when the Group Areas Act split the membership. We reestablished ourselves in Retreat and have been operating from there ever since. Our members range from 5 years old to 50 years old players with the club and are all from previous disadvantage communities and reside in Steenberg, Coniston Park, Sea Winds, Lotus River, Montague Estate, Retreat, Lavender Hill and Grassy Park and surrounding areas where unemployment is prevalent. It is always our aim and goal to attract and encourage more young people to leave the streets and join our club that is affiliated to Cape District Football Association based in Wynberg.
Our club is by far not very well off and we do struggle to get subscription in, but it is very seldom that our members get a red card and our family values are fantastic. What I admire most of our club is the family commitment and honestly as we will never play with an older player in a team that he does not belong in.
Our President of the club is Mr F. de Kock
The secretary is Mr John Mathyse and all correspondence should go to him at : 19 Avenue le Breton, Steenberg, 7945.
